Pocklington RUFC gave twenty players a run out in their first pre-season friendly at Goole, coming away with a 33-19 victory thanks to some excellent first half finishing.
Pocklington opened the scoring on the quarter hour as Richie Kaisia's delayed pass sent fellow centre Tom Richardson streaking through to the posts, Christian Pollock converting. Four minutes later a turnover on halfway was moved smartly right where Dan Elliot broke clear to cross. And the fullback shone again as Goole were enjoying their best spell only for Elliot to intercept on his own line and race 95 meters for his second touchdown, Pollock converting both.
A lineout drive on the right paved the way for wing Dan Boddy scoring on the left and with the last play of the first half right wing Michael Gilbank won the race to a kick ahead for Pocklington's fifth try, Pollock kicking his fourth conversion for 33-0.
To their credit, lower league Goole came back strongly after the break. They got their offloading game going to cross three times in the first 20 minutes of the second period. Pocklington shuffled their resources and regrouped to have the better of the last quarter without adding to their score to leave it at 33-19.
This Saturday Pocklington have a home game with higher league Billingham, kick off 2.15 pm at Percy Road.
