It has been a worrying time for James Thompson and his family after he collapsed while running a half marathon and has been seriously ill for the past week. Thankfully he is now on the mend and everyone at PRUFC wishes him well for a full recovery.
Just a week after playing for Pock in the Olney 7s without mishap, James ran the Humber Bridge half marathon last Sunday (30 June) in aid of Castle Hill Hospital cancer unit. But he collapsed a mile from the finish with heat stroke, and his body temperature got up to 43 degrees which caused his major organs to shut down. He had to be put into an induced coma for a few hours, his heart and lungs recovered well, but unfortunately he had sustained kidney and liver failure which saw him in intensive care for the next six days.
The good news is thanks to the brilliant NHS staff he is now out of danger and recovering well in hospital in Leeds.
