Pocklington RUFC have stepped up their preparations for their coming North 1 East campaign and start their pre-season match programme next week.
They have arranged to play two old rivals, Redcar and Sheffield, on 11 and 24 August respectively. Pocklington travel to the North East to Durham-Northumberland 2 outfit Redcar a week on Saturday (11 August), before going on to a Friday night clash with Midlands Premier division Sheffield under the Sheffield Hallam University sports park floodlights on 24 August. Pocklington have had numerous keen encounters in both league and cup against Redcar and Sheffield over the years.
It's then straight into league action with successive home clashes against local rivals Bridlington (1 September) and Driffield (8 September). There is also an additional tough cup test later in the season as Pocklington have been drawn against Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Cup on or before November 10.
After working hard on their conditioning for the past three weeks, the Pocklington squad has now become more tactical focused in Tuesday and Thursday evening training. They have also added an extra 6.30 am early Saturday morning fitness session, and the coaching team is also looking to arrange another opposed training session as part of their preparations
Pocklington Colts have also arranged an appealing pre-season fixture before they embark on the defence of their Yorkshire Colts (North & East) championship title. Pocklington Colts will entertain Pocklington School, who are currently on pre-season tour in South Africa, on Friday 31 September at Percy Road.
Pocklington Colts will play in a Yorkshire division with Harrogate, Ripon, Guisborough, Driffield, Beverley and Malton & Norton in the 2018-19 campaign.
