Pocklington R.U.F.C. is one of the area’s premier sporting organisations with a proud tradition stretching back to 1879. During that time we have produced many outstanding individuals and teams – England captain Frank Mitchell in 1895 to Rob Webber to this date. Rob’s brother Mat has been a successful captain of the 1st XV for a number of years and is also the Former Director of Rugby. Pocklington were also voted Rugby World Magazine’s Team of the Year for the whole of Great Britain in 2000. The club was voted the best amateur club in the country by BT Sport viewers in 2013.
The Club have consolidated themselves in North One East of the RFU Clubs Championship after being Yorkshire Division One champions in 2011-12. The Club’s 1st XV will also be competing for the Yorkshire Challenge Cup.
Each Good Friday we stage Pocklington area’s premier sporting event the annual Pock 7’s tournament, which is one of Yorkshire’s biggest and best rugby days out, drawing thousands to the Percy Road Ground from all over the country. The juniors add to the festival occasion with their popular Charity Sevens tournament on Easter Sunday.
In addition to regular league and cup games, other major events include the end of season President’s XV fixture against county and international players, a Golf day and a Sportsman’s Dinner to raise monies for local charities.
Pocklington R.U.F.C.’s Sunday morning junior and mini rugby section is well known as one of the best in the county. We turn out sides at all levels from Under 7’s upwards and three junior sides have been Yorkshire champions in recent years. Percy Road swarms every Sunday with hundreds of youngsters and parents and some 150 boys have played for Yorkshire, with a dozen of them going on to be junior or full internationals.

The Club also encourages sponsors to enjoy the benefits of club membership, which includes use of our excellent social facilities, good sport and after match entertaining and networking, and the chance to apply for international tickets. The clubhouse facilities are being re-furbished for the 2014-15 season and are available for hire for functions, social events and meetings. The club undertook a major upgrade in 2011 when it built a new changing room complex.
Pocklington R.U.F.C. has seen considerable success through the years and sponsorship plays a vital role in maintaining the club’s standing throughout Yorkshire and the North East and developing its facilities for future generations. Sponsorship can go to the general development of the club, or can be specifically targeted by the sponsor (i.e. to an individual team or event, or to youth rugby, or towards a particular facility or project).
